Mick Barr

Mick Barr, el. guitar

We regret to announce that Zs was forced to cancel due to an emergency situation.

"Mick Barr is the most focused and uncompromising composer in the current rock underground." -Weasel Walter

"He is our John Coltrane." - Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat/Fugazi/The Evens)

Ars Nova Workshop is thrilled to present guitarist Mick Barr (Orthrelm, Ocrilim) and a duo performance by Phillip Greenlief and Mr. Bungle co-founder Trevor Dunn.

There are few guitarists who can play with the speed and precision of Mick Barr.  In 2001, Barr and drummer Josh Blair released their first full-length album, Iorxhscimtor, under the name Orthrelm.  The duo released a few more albums, EPs, and splits - including the 13 minute, 99 song-long Asristir Veldriox - up until 2007, though are still active.  Barr's other collaborations include Crom-tech, a duo with Hella drummer Zach Hill, and he has also worked with The Flying Luttenbachers, Krallice, and Nondor Navai.  As a solo artist, touring and recording under the names Octis, Or:12r3, and Ocrilim, Barr has released over 15 full-length albums, 7"s, and cassettes.  These albums are marked by Barr's furious and highly technical, sometimes heavily looped, guitar playing, which is often accompanied by a drum machine.  The only thing working harder than your ears while listening to Barr's guitar attack is Barr himself.

Trevor Dunn, bass

Phillip Greenlief and Trevor Dunn have been performing as a duo for over 14 years, releasing several albums to critical praise.  Their work together is motivated by their bold and diverse sonic palettes, which make each encounter, whether in the live or recorded moment, a singular and exhilarating experience.

Composer and bassist Dunn exemplifies the category-blurring spirit of experimental music, performing across jazz, metal, punk, classical, electronic, surf and noise labels.  Over the years he has worked with genre-benders Mr. Bungle (which he co-founded with Mike Patton) and Secret Chiefs 3, Tzadik-founder and prolific composer John Zorn, Fantômas (with the Melvin's Buzz Osbourne and Slayer's Dave Lombardo), and many others.  Composer and multi-instrumentalist Greenlief, who founded the Evander Music label in 1996, has worked with Anthony Braxton, Mary Halvorson, William Parker, Wadada Leo Smith, and Nels Cline.  In addition to an upcoming solo release, new albums by Greenlief's Lost Trio, FPR Trio, and Bush Of Ghosts are on the horizon.
